Cost-effectiveness
Peering provides a cost effective means of exchanging traffic by reducing upstream connectivity. Additionally it can provide a means of improving network performance though enhanced connectivity, lower latency and redundancy and more direct traffic flows. The more members that set up peering arrangements with each other, the more everyone using the Exchange benefits. Peering arrangements are set up between members, and while they are under no obligation to peer with each other, at Edge-IX we work to facilitate peering agreements between all members.
Excellence of Membership
Edge-IX existing members provide a valuable peer group. Access providers include Carphone Warehouse and Thus and content providers such as the BBC and VirginMedia (ntl/Telewest) are also members.
Geographical Locations
As a distributed exchange, Edge-IX has the benefit of being available from a variety of geographical locations rather than just in a single metropolitan area as with many other exchanges.
Quality of Service
As many exchanges are operated by their members, they run on a ‘best-efforts’ basis and are not underpinned by service level agreements (SLAs). All Edge-IX services are delivered according to the SLAs that you would expect from any other communications infrastructure service. All Edge-IX services are underpinned by our ISO 9001 and ISO 27001 accreditations.
Range of Services Offered
Edge offers a range of services and ports. The exchange runs IPv4 and IPv6 . Customers can also purchases service bundles taking more than one service at reduced costs.
