NWIX launches distributed Internet Exchange
National Edge-IX exchange service allows NWIX’s customers to benefit from cost savings and protection from global cyber attacks
18th April 2011 – Leading infrastructure service provider NWIX, has today announced a nationwide distributed Internet Exchange solution called Edge-IX.
NWIX’s Manchester Internet Exchange (MaNAP) has benefited ISPs and local businesses for the last 14 years by driving down Internet costs and protecting them against global cyber threats. Now this service can be offered to customers across the UK, as Edge-IX allows them to be served locally via the data centre locations along NWIX’s national infrastructure.
Nick Whittaker, founder and chairman of NWIX said: “The Edge-IX service has significant national importance as it means that businesses can keep their Internet traffic local and so safeguard against security threats that could impact national data transfer routes. The Edge-IX exchange service allows our customers to benefit from professional peering services with other on-net peers, not just within a single city, but nationwide.
“The more members that set up peering arrangements with each other, the more beneficial it is to them and also results in significant data cost reductions as customers will no longer have to pay per Mb. Members pay a joining fee and thereafter data costs are free.”
